In order to protect display cases and the art objects inside from seismic shocks in earthquake prone areas, cases can either be securely bolted to the floor, or placed on an „isolator“. The isolator can either be inside the case to carry the art object, or it can be installed under the case to carry the entire display case.
The video shows a simulation of two different seismic shocks. The display case with an isolator underneath is placed upon a shock-test table. The isolator absorbs the vibrations, the art objects inside are safe. In comparison, the wooden object on the unprotected plinth falls over.
