Originally opened in 1968 and designed by Taniguchi Yoshiro, the five-storey building with 13 gallery spaces was strengthened by taking earthquake proof measures. Today, the Toyokan Asian art Collection is presented inside 120 free-standing, wall- and table cases, some of extraordinary dimension. It is considered the largest specialist gallery of Asian art in Japan.
