More about Picasso “Le Fou”: The 85 x 35 cm drawing of blue watercolor on wrapping-paper is made of 2 sections and carries an inscription at the left center: A mi buen amigo Sebastian Junyent, Picasso. In 1904, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) at age 23 created over 100 works of art, mostly drawings, some paintings and few sculptures. The following year he even created over 350 works, being a true workaholic, Picasso’s oeuvre comprises over 30.000 works of art in his lifetime. Picasso has worked on the motif of the fool many times, among the currently most prominent is a bronze bust with black patina of 42 cm height conceived in 1905 (cast in 1925) which was recently traded at Christie’s at a price of $1,192,000! This bust of “Le Fou” is also named “The Jester”, whereas the drawing “Le Fou” of the Museu Picasso, Barcelona is co-titled “L'idiot” or “The Madman”. The famous drawing originates from the so called Blue period in late 1904, the same year horse-drawn cars were replaced by motorized omnibuses in Paris, where Picasso was living at that time.
