Display cases news: "New Standards of Excellence in Display" in Melbourne, Australia

The highly innovative, unique glass display cases at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia have expanded the parameters of display case manufacture.

The freestanding display cases are non-rectangular and totally flexible in dimension. Their design is derived from the form of an ancient Chinese tangram puzzle, a square cut into seven pieces to be combined into various figures. This design concept compliments the building that features triangular matrix-like forms. The cases can be joined together to form larger ones and to allow a variety of configurations. They are designed to be moveable and they can be completely dismantled, if desired. The fiber optic light in the cases is subtly fitted into the ceilings of the cases at points on a grid. Each light is adjustable, so that lighting levels can be precisely calibrated according to the conservation needs of items on display. The display cases were created in a collaboration between the NGV's Chief Exhibition Designer, Daryl West-Moore, staff of the exhibition design department, curators, conservators, the architects LAB Architecture Studio in association with Bates Smart and GLASBAU HAHN.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square is the spectacular new home of Australian art, with twenty galleries housed in a landmark architectural complex designed by Lab architecture studio in association with Bates Smart.
With more Australian art on permanent display than any other gallery in the world, as well as special exhibitions and programs, cafes, a restaurant and new perspectives of the city through its glass matrix, NGV Australia is more than a great place to view art. It's a completely fresh approach that encourages people from all walks of life to enjoy the world of art within the new cultural heart of Melbourne.
