A central work of art of renaissance painter Hans Baldung Grien owned by the Angermuseum in Erfurt is for the fist time visible in a recto-verso HAHN protector display case – travelling to Schwäbisch Gmünd to the “Museum im Prediger”.
During reconstruction of the Angermuseum until its reopening in 2010, Grien’s exeptional masterpiece “God’s creation of the animals and the first human couple” (1532/33), belonging to the most precious paintings owned by the state of Thuringia, will travel to the painters native town in Swabia. The “Museum im Prediger” in Gmünd has financed the tailor made Protector Climate Control display case in order to show both sides of the 500 year old wooden painting with Grisaille painting on the back for the first time – and under perfectly safe and controlled conditions. The HAHN Protector case provides highest conservatory standards to ensure safe travelling also to future venues, e. g. to Stockholm. There, the National Museum owns a panel complementing Grien’s masterpiece in Erfurt. Existing scientific research claims that both are part of an astronomical clock for the Münster in Strasbourg. Depicting biblical scenes of the Genesis, the painting refers to the Gods of the Planets, representing the World Clockwork manifest in the sky, a popular idea in Renaissance cosmology.
